The Zoom RFX-2200 was a 1U rackmount digital effects processor released in 2004, known for offering a wide range of high-quality effects at an affordable price. Built around 24-bit AD/DA conversion and 32-bit internal processing, it delivered studio-grade performance that appealed to both project studios and live sound engineers.
The Zoom RFX-2200 included 48 preset effects programs spread across six banks, covering reverbs, delays, modulation effects, pitch shifting, distortion, a vocoder, and more. One of its most notable features was the inclusion of a front-panel combination XLR/TRS mic input with phantom power and a dedicated on/off switch, allowing direct mic connection without an external mixer, particularly useful for vocal effects or vocoder use.
The Zoom RFX-2200’s user interface was clean and intuitive, with dedicated parameter knobs and a tap tempo button that made syncing delays and modulation effects quick and easy. It also featured full MIDI implementation for patch changes and real-time control, along with coaxial and optical S/PDIF outputs for digital integration. The Zoom RFX-2200 became popular with budget-conscious producers and engineers who needed flexible effects processing in a compact format.
Despite its low price point, the Zoom RFX-2200 delivered impressive sonic quality and a broad palette of usable effects that made it a staple in many studio racks throughout the 2000s.
