Yamaha ProR3 Digital Reverberator

The Yamaha ProR3 marks a new era in Yamaha’s reverberation technology. Third-generation Yamaha digital signal processors (DSP) with 32 bit digital signal processing and high-performance 20 bit linear A/D and D/A converters provide unprecedented density and resolution, with breathtaking dynamics.

Yamaha ProR3 Digital Reverberator Details

The Yamaha ProR3 delivers ultra-high-quality analogue input and output circuitry with a dynamic range of 110 dB, ensuring incredibly natural reverberation with a smooth, noiseless decay. It features 10 primary effects, including reverb, early reflection, room simulation, and combinations with echo, chorus, flanging, pitch change, and auto-pan.

A pre-effect EQ enhances sound before the primary effect, while dynamic filters, compressors, EQ, gates, level, and balance adjustments follow the main effect. In stereo input mode, the Yamaha ProR3 offers true stereo reverb. Alongside 90 factory preset programs ready for immediate use, 90 user memory slots enable custom settings.

The unit includes balanced XLR and 1/4″ phone jack connectors for versatile input and output compatibility. Input and output level selectors (-10 dB/+4 dB) ensure flexible level matching. MIDI integration allows external program selection and bulk data storage.

The Yamaha ProR3 represents a significant advance in digital reverb technology, offering unparalleled reverberation quality, rich effects, and user-friendly operation. Suitable for home studios, professional recording, and live sound, it integrates a 3rd-generation DSP LSI with 32-bit processing power and 20-bit linear A/D and D/A converters for exceptional sound density, resolution, and dynamic impact. Its analogue circuitry further enhances this performance, achieving a dynamic range of 110 dB.

The Yamaha ProR3 includes comprehensive processing stages to refine reverb and effects. A 3-band sweepable pre-reverb EQ ensures fast sound shaping, while a parameter-programmable post-reverb EQ offers expanded control with three bands, adjustable frequency, gain, and Q. The EQ covers a broad frequency range, with the low and high bands switchable for shelving or peaking.

The noise gate goes beyond simple threshold adjustment, featuring programmable trigger delay, hold time, release time, and optional MIDI-triggering for versatile use. The precision compressor includes adjustable threshold, ratio, attack, release, and knee settings, allowing detailed control over the effects sound.

Dynamic filtration adds depth, offering low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass modes with programmable parameters, enabling anything from subtle tonal nuances to dramatic sweeps. The Yamaha ProR3’s effects focus on natural reverberation but include combinations with modulation effects like chorus, flanging, and pitch change for added versatility.

Programs in the Yamaha ProR3 are based on 11 core effect types and can be edited or reprogrammed to suit specific needs. The 90 factory presets span a wide range of applications and can be stored in 90 user memory locations for instant recall.

The Yamaha ProR3 provides XLR and 1/4″ phone jacks, with electronic balancing for compatibility with all equipment types. Mono signals are also supported via the phone jacks. Input/output level selectors (-10 dB/+4 dB) offer additional level-matching options. A full MIDI interface supports program changes, real-time parameter control, and data dumps for integration into MIDI-based setups.

The user interface includes a 24-character, 2-line backlit LCD for displaying multiple parameters, enabling efficient programming and operation. Features like the compare function allow easy A/B comparison of original and edited sounds.

Core programs include options like large, medium, and small halls and rooms; plate; gate; and effect reverbs. Specialised combinations include echo and reverb, early reflections with reverb, modulation with reverb, pitch changes, and auto-panning effects. Each combination offers serial and parallel patches for creative flexibility.
