The SPL Marc One is a hybrid monitor and recording controller designed for professional and high-fidelity desktop studios. It combines analogue monitor management with digital-to-analogue conversion, headphone amplification and advanced monitoring features, making it a compact yet powerful control centre. Built around SPL’s signature VOLTAiR 120V technology, the Marc One delivers pristine audio with immense headroom, ultra-low noise, and exceptional clarity across both the loudspeaker and headphone paths.
At its core, the SPL Marc One integrates a top-tier AKM AK4490 DAC, which supports PCM audio up to 768 kHz and DSD up to DSD4 or DSD256. This enables highly detailed digital audio conversion for critical listening and mastering. The digital input section offers USB connectivity for seamless integration with computer-based production systems. The USB DAC operates in Class 2 mode and supports Windows (with driver) and macOS (driverless).
For monitoring, the SPL Marc One offers two pairs of balanced line-level outputs (on TRS), which can be toggled between via the front panel. A large analogue volume control adjusts the listening level precisely for the selected output. A third output pair, labelled “Monitor Out 3”, is designed for active subwoofers and always mirrors the signal selected via the monitor switch. All outputs benefit from VOLTAiR technology, ensuring the highest analogue performance.
The headphone amplifier is equally refined, delivering transparent, powerful signal amplification that can drive even high-impedance headphones with ease. Headphone volume is independently adjustable and benefits from the same 120V rail operation, guaranteeing accurate and dynamic monitoring. A crossfeed function, inspired by SPL’s Phonitor headphone amplifiers, simulates loudspeaker listening conditions to aid in making better mix decisions when using headphones.
A dedicated monitor source switch lets users toggle between three input sources: USB (digital), and two analogue inputs (stereo pair on balanced TRS and a stereo RCA input with switchable -10 dBV consumer level). This makes it easy to compare mixes or reference tracks from different playback systems. A second toggle allows switching between monitor sources for speaker and headphone monitoring independently, which is useful when cueing or cross-referencing material.
