At its core, the SPL Control One features two balanced stereo line inputs and one unbalanced RCA stereo input with a switchable -10 dBV consumer level. This allows flexible integration of multiple audio sources, such as audio interfaces, CD players, or media streamers. Input selection is easily managed via a front-panel toggle switch, allowing the user to quickly switch between different reference sources.
For speaker monitoring, the SPL Control One provides two independently switchable stereo speaker outputs, both fully balanced via TRS connectors. A third stereo output, “Monitor Out 3,” is fixed-level and ideal for use with a subwoofer or external metering. A large analogue volume knob provides precise level control over the selected speaker output.
Headphone monitoring is handled by a high-quality amplifier based on the VOLTAiR design, capable of driving headphones with high power and excellent detail. A dedicated headphone volume control enables independent level adjustment. Additionally, SPL’s acclaimed crossfeed function is included, allowing users to simulate the stereo imaging of speakers while monitoring on headphones, greatly improving mix translation and spatial judgment during headphone sessions.
The SPL Control One supports independent switching of monitoring sources for speakers and headphones, which is useful for referencing different inputs or cueing material in parallel. It also includes an analogue mix function, allowing users to blend signals from Input 1 and Input 2 together. This makes it possible to monitor, for example, a DAW mix alongside a live input from an instrument or voice, without external routing.
