Had this for about three years now, it is everything that came before it (from Yamaha) in one box. Sound is typical Yamaha ‘clean’, it is quiet and at the prices these go for these days, a bit of a bargain.

I own 7 Yamaha reverb processors SPX90, 90II, 900, 990, 1000, Rev5, Rev7. The SPX1000 has the most natural sounding reverb of them all, as well as being stereo in and out. Honestly if you want natural sounding reverb buy one they are a bargain.

The Yamaha D5000 must not have sold very well when it was released back in the mid 1990s. Or perhaps it sold very well and those who bought it don’t let them go very easily? I think it may be the later. Bob Clearmountain claims the Yamaha D5000 is the greatest digital delay ever made, perhaps he is right. So if you are after a digital delay that offers pristine sound quality and low noise, and one that imparts little of itself on your signal, then look no further than the Yamaha D5000.

Lots of effects and up to 5 simultaneous with some algorithms. You still see these for sale in excellent, working condition highlighting the superb build quality and reliability of these units at 30 years old. It’s a professional unit for professional applications though has been superseded by so many other modern equivalents that have been based on this original format and design. Even with its age, it still holds its own and is still a sought after vintage effects processor.

SUPER DELAY – WORST BUILD QUALITY

I have had a D two in the Rack und I have to admit that it was the worst unit ever from a build quality. All knobs to the right hand side had literally no contact to make adjustments once pressed. Once I turned the Alpha dial to right hand side, the Display went nuts or changed presets randomly after some runtime. Even a factory reset and some service to the knobs did not solved the issues. Once it was up and running it did the job and I liked it – but if a unit is so unreliable, it was not fun to use at all.

I have had a unit for quite some years in the rack….Weak spots are: the display, the knobs and the alphadial. I guess all of this relates to the built quality which is in my eyes not too good and the reason why I sold mine. The knobs sound cheap and are in some cases not precise. Display failed to random issues…. once it worked it was great. the overall build quality is questionable – in my eyes. I really loved the Spring Reverb Emulation.

Lovely effects and sounds from other galaxies (I’m sure Adrian Belew has tried it. Bowie tried everything.)My only disappointment is Fireworx doesn’t include a 2290 setting…or an I daft and don’t know how to dial it. Got mine years ago. It sounded bloody great on live vocals. So I’d love to own the best TC unit made. And Danish like mine. You’ve my email. Btw, my Son has 4 TC Electronic pedals for his 1963 lefty Stratocaster I gave him and his other lovely American made guitars.

This is only not a preset box. Yes, the presets are good and the sound is excellent. It reveals itself through programming and exploration. If you spend some time with the manual you will be arranging and patching so many effects your head will spin, but spin the best way via your ears. If you had a rack of physical modules that you could patch together in any order (serial or parallel) you approach what is possible in this device.
