An LCD on the Otari DTR-90 screen gives you access to powerful features and functions often relegated to DIP switches in other R-DATs. For example, when Set t p is selected, the LCD will display each of the machine’s settings and functions, like sampling frequency, reference clock, input signal, emphasis, digital input gain, data, and all meter characteristics. In short, you get what you need when you need it, without scrolling!
The Otari DTR-90 offers you complete flexibility of sources, 1/0s, and external control with:
- 18/17.9.52/44.1/14.0.56/.32 kHz sampling rates.
- SMPTE/EBU time-code record and play option only).
- RS-422 remote control port. Serial protocol compatibility with Sony 7000 Series R-1) IT’ decks. (RS-2.32C remote control port optional.)
- RS/EBU/SPDIF digital interface.
- Otari standard 37-pin parallel I/O remote control port.
Two Otari DTR-90s and Otari’s CB-149 Digital Editor make up an electronic editing system that gives you precise control with SMPTE/EBU timecode, or film/videoframe rate editing. The Otari DTR-90 gives you the sonic performance you’d expect from Otari. A/Ds with 64 times over-sampling, and 18-bit D/As with 8 times over-sampling provide minimal phase distortion.
When chase-synchronisation is what you need, the Otari DTR-90T’s synchroniser delivers tight lock with any time-code-based VTR or audio machine. Sync offset time is adjustable, and you can capture an offset instantly.
It doesn’t make sense to pay for features you’ll never use, so both the Otari DTR90 and the Otari DTR-90T are designed so you can ‘custom build’ an R-DAT with just what you need. Modular construction allows these R-DAT machines to be configured to fit audio mastering, post-production, broadcast playback, or sound library applications. For example, the optional Quick-Start memory gives you instantaneous audio with no wow – especially helpful in on-air applications. And the optional Time-Code Card/Chase Synchroniser provides Post professionals with tight lock for VTRs and audio machines.
The cost and space savings afforded by R-DAT technology are considerable. However, if the technology is not supported by quality construction that takes advantage of the performance potential of R-DAT, and at the same time delivers the reliability expected of professional audio equipment, these savings are soon eroded in day-to-day operation. Hence, the Otari DTR-90 is built to deliver cost, performance and reliability to the professional user.
Operational convenience to save you time and money.
A vari-speed control lets you change pitch by providing a ± 12.5% variance in play (or record) speed. During recording and dubbing, the DTR-90 can read after write for off-tape monitoring of the recording. Either input or tape can be monitored. Search mode allows rapid forward or rewind to the next, or previous, start ID at the touch of a button. If desired, you can also select a distant start 11), and the Otari DTR-90 will go to standby as soon as the specified start ID is located. Any point on the tape can also be quickly located using timecode locate.
The jog/shuttle knob lets you control shuttle speeds at 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, or 16 times play speed. And when equipped with the optional Edit Memory, jog speeds can be varied from crawl to play speed. The convenient PRO R TIME function will read A-time and translate it in the optional Timecode Card to output SMPTE/EBU timecode with the time information imbedded in it as running time. This way, the Otari DTR-90’s output timecode will agree with your local standard.
Special functions that give you the edge
Especially important in on-air, or sound effects applications, an optional Quick-Start memory gives you instant play-start. You just mark and trim the starting point and press the Play button. You get instantaneous audio with no start-up delay (or wow, as experienced with analogue audio machines). And if it makes it easier in your particular application, you can Quick-Start with a fader-start remote or a General Purpose Interface. When it comes to crossfades, they’re not only easy to set, but extremely flexible. The crossfade display lets you set edit in/out and fade in/out separately, and you can choose either a linear or log crossfade style, depending on the material to be edited.
