The MOTU 16A Gen 2 audio interface offers 32 channels of analogue and digital I/O, ultra-low latency over Thunderbolt, and top-tier ESS Sabre32 Ultra converters. It features a 48-channel digital mixer with classic EQ and compression, AVB networking, and web-based control, making it a powerful hub for studio and live setups.

MOTU 16A Gen 2 Audio Interface Details

The MOTU 16A Gen 2 audio interface is a professional-grade solution designed for studio and live sound environments requiring high channel counts and pristine audio quality. It features sixteen balanced TRS analogue inputs and sixteen balanced TRS analogue outputs, along with two banks of ADAT optical digital I/O, giving a total of thirty-two inputs and thirty-two outputs. This makes the MOTU 16A second generation ideally suited for integrating multiple analogue sources into a digital workflow, or for use as a central routing and summing hub.

Equipped with the latest-generation ESS Sabre32 Ultra digital-to-analogue converters, the MOTU 16A Gen 2 delivers a dynamic range of up to 123 dB on the main outputs. Latency is exceptionally low, with round-trip times as low as 1.4 milliseconds over Thunderbolt at 96 kHz with a 32-sample buffer. Connectivity includes Thunderbolt for high-bandwidth data transfer and ultra-low latency performance, and USB for broad compatibility with Mac, Windows, and iOS devices.

The MOTU 16A Gen 2 also includes a powerful 48-channel digital mixer with classic British-style analogue EQ models, compression, reverb, and flexible routing capabilities. The mixer allows up to twelve stereo busses, including main, aux, and group busses, all accessible via a web-based control app that works on any device with a browser. The internal routing matrix allows any input to be patched to any output or multiple outputs simultaneously, enabling highly complex signal flows.

With built-in AVB networking, the MOTU 16A Gen 2 can be connected to other compatible devices via standard Ethernet to create expandable audio systems supporting hundreds of channels. It can operate stand-alone without a computer, and offers wireless control via a connected Wi-Fi router, ideal for remote mixing scenarios. A full-colour front panel display provides comprehensive level metering and access to key system settings, completing the MOTU 16A Gen 2’s offering as a powerful, high-quality, and flexible interface solution.
