Looptrotter Sa2rate 2 Details

The updated Looptrotter Sa2rate introduces a BOOST function, amplifying the input level by 17 dB. This feature allows direct compatibility with devices operating at -10 dB, such as synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, and enables direct integration into guitar amplifier effects loops. Additionally, it features a balanced +4 dBu output, making it suitable as an instrument preamp.

With an input level of +4 dBu, the BOOST function enables extreme saturation and distortion, significantly expanding the sonic possibilities. SA2RATE is a fully original Looptrotter design, the result of extensive research into harmonic distortion and analogue sound processing. It enriches mixes with a warm, fat, analogue tone, ideal for bringing analogue character into digital workflows.

Inspired by vintage tube mixing consoles and tape recorders, SA2RATE smooths signals, introduces low-order harmonics, and functions as an analogue soft limiter. It enhances RMS levels in a musical and ear-friendly way, creating solid, fat sounds during recording or processing tracks and subgroups in mixing. Perfectly paired channels make it suitable for mastering applications.

Looptrotter Sa2rate 2 includes preemphasis and deemphasis circuits, optimising the processing of bass-heavy signals like drums and bass guitars. It also excels at animating digital synths, imparting a vintage analogue vibe. Its design replicates the warm characteristics of tube saturation, achieved using semiconductors for greater durability and longevity.

The interface is simple and user-friendly, with each channel featuring:

  • DRIVE to adjust saturation depth
  • OUTPUT to control output level
  • BOOST for a 17 dB input gain
  • Two LED indicators monitor the harmonic distortion depth at 4% and 8% THD. SA2RATE offers reliable, high-quality performance with long-term operational stability.

The second generation of the dual channel saturator is fitted with Looptrotter’s world-famous solid-state saturation circuit. It was created to add low order harmonics and smoothly even the signal in a musical and ear friendly way, significantly increasing the RMS level without raising peaks at the same time, so desired in modern music production.

Looptrotter Sa2rate 2 upgrades include:

  • TRS instrument inputs (-10dB)
  • LO Safe/ HI Smooth THD filters
  • DRY/WET signal control
