Grace Design m108 Microphone Preamplifier Details

Building on 25 years of experience in designing acclaimed professional audio equipment, the Grace Design m108 represents the latest evolution of Grace Design’s microphone preamplifier technology. Featuring eight channels of transparent and musical mic preamplification, state-of-the-art A/D conversion, multiple digital output formats, and the option for local or remote-controlled operation, the m108 is an essential tool for modern audio production.

Its transformerless, transimpedance microphone preamp design ensures exceptional resolution of complex sonic waveforms, delivering recordings with remarkable clarity and depth. The integrated A/D conversion provides pristine digital signals, while the latest-generation s-Lock PLL guarantees a jitter-free sample clock when synchronising with an external word clock or Dante clock. The asynchronous mode USB interface offers optimal jitter performance when connected to a computer.

The user interface is designed for simplicity and efficiency, featuring a push-button rotary encoder for navigation and operation. Dedicated push-buttons control key functions such as 48V phantom power, phase reverse, channel grouping, and meter peak clear. A high-contrast OLED screen provides complete system information, including gain settings, metering, peak status, and system setup details.

Drawing on the success of the Grace Design m802 remote-controlled microphone preamplifier, the m108 condenses the best elements of its predecessor into a sleek 1U chassis. Standard output connectivity includes balanced analogue, AES3, ADAT, and USB, with an option slot allowing for expansion via Digilink, Dante, or Ravenna (including ST2110/AES67). Additionally, a Control Room Output (CRO) card can be installed, enabling the m108 to function as a monitor controller for studio monitors.

The Grace Design m108 Control Software application provides remote control of up to 12 Grace Design m108 units via the Ethernet control port, with a dedicated control panel for managing preamps, ADC, and clocking parameters. It supports the creation of channel groups and preset storage and recall. The application runs on Windows (7, 8.1, 10) and macOS (10.11), while Android and iOS users can access the m108 through a dedicated web interface.

A built-in web browser controller allows for remote operation from most web-enabled Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android devices. Optimised for Chrome, the web interface provides seamless control over any m108 connected to an IP LAN. Simply entering the unit’s IP address into a browser loads the interface automatically, enabling quick and efficient remote operation.
