Genex GX9048

Genex GX9048 48-Channel Digital Recorder

The Genex GX9048 combines 48 channels of 24-bit/192kHz PCM recording and playback with 48 channels of DSD recording and playback to deliver unrivalled levels of performance and flexibility. Seamless punch in and out in DSD mode elevates Direct Stream Digital far beyond its traditional archiving and mastering applications, enabling all the post-production flexibility you're used to with existing PCM formats.

Genex GX9048 48-Channel Digital Recorder Details

The new Genex GX9048 is the world’s most advanced digital audio recorder. It delivers the combined benefits of 48 channel single wire 24-bit / 192kHz PCM recording and playback with 48 channel DSD recording and playback.

For nearly ten years Genex has led the field in the design and manufacture of advanced digital audio recorders. A proud tradition of ‘firsts’ includes the world’s first 96kHz instant access recorder, the first 192kHzcapable recorder and the first commercially available DSD recorder. Now Genex is pleased to announce two ‘next generation’ recorders, the Genex GX9000 and Genex GX9048.

Combining our own unrivalled experience with feedback from customers and close collaboration with Sony and Phillips, joint inventors of the DSD format, we’ve developed a pair of recorders uniquely capable of handling all of today‘s and some of tomorrow’s high resolution digital audio formats.

PCM and DSD
The Genex GX9000 and Genex GX9048 are the first and only devices capable of single wire 24-bit/192kHz PCM recording. The recorders actually clock at 192kHz and don’t need to interleave data across channels. This feature allows a single GX9000 to record and playback 8 channels of 24-bit/192kHz PCM and allows a Genex GX9048 to record and playback an astounding 48 channels of 24-bit/192kHz PCM data. Additionally, both machines can be used in DSD mode, with the GX9000 recording up to 8 channels of DSD and the Genex GX9048 recording up to 48 channels.

And Genex has taken DSD to a higher level. The Genex GX9048 recorders can seamlessly punch in and out in DSD mode, providing all the postproduction flexibility you’re used to with conventional PCM equipment.

Interchange and Storage Integrity
The new Genex recorders are designed from the ground up to cope with the complexity of the latest digital data formats. In addition to the ability to process prodigious quantities of data, a professional recorder needs to store that data reliably and in a format that can be easily transferred to other production tools. Genex GX9K recorders are capable of live disk mirroring. Where bandwidth allows, recordings can be written to two disks simultaneously, saving valuable post session copy time.

Both the Genex GX9000 and Genex GX9048 can read and write data in a choice of file formats. In PCM mode, selecting AES31 format allows instant interchange with popular DAWs. In DSD mode, the interleaved DSD IFF is used for low track counts and a modified version of AES31 for high track counts. Alternatively, the proprietary Genex linear format delivers added data security, blazing write speeds and guaranteed data recovery, even when the disk directory is lost, or the disk is otherwise corrupted.

Sample Rate Conversion
Built-in sample rate conversion is a standard feature of both recorders. Conversion operates at rates up to and including 192kHz and it’s even possible to convert from PCM to DSD and back again, enabling old archived material to be reviewed at 24-bit/192kHz and then compared in DSD.

Control
The USB 2.0 port is designed to connect to a PC running the optional GXR take-logging / editing software. Every detail of a recording can be annotated and text stored on disk as part of a project. The GUI interface also supports simple cut, copy and paste editing. Up to 48 channels.
