Fostex has long been a leader in synchronisation, and the Fostex RD-8 redefines that commitment. With its built-in SMPTE reader/generator, the Fostex RD-8 can stripe, read, and jam sync Time Code – even convert to MIDI Time Code – on a moment’s notice. In a sync environment, the RD-8 can be either Master or Slave. In a MIDI environment it will integrate seamlessly into even the most complex project studio, allowing you complete transport control from within your MMC compatible sequencing software.

The Fostex RD-8 can be controlled via the industry-standard RS-422 port, providing full transport control right from your video edit bay. The RD-8 records at either 44.1 or 48kHz and will perform Pull-Up and Pull-Down functions for film/video transfers. The Track Slip feature helps maintain perfect sound-to-picture sync and the 8-Channel Optical Digital Interface keeps you in the digital domain.

With its LCD and 10-digit display panels, the Fostex RD-8 is remarkably easy to control. You can readily access 100 locate points and cross-fade time is fully controllable in machine-to-machine editing. Table of Contents data can be recorded on tape. When the next session begins, whether on your RD-8 or another, you just load the set-up information from your tape and begin working.

Superb Audio Quality.
The Fostex RD-8 uses the professional standard 16-bit analogue-to-digital conversion, 44.1 kHz or 48kHz sampling rate, and 64 times oversampling for CD sound quality. The sound is as perfect as current technology can deliver.

S-VHS Transport.
The S-VHS transport in the RD-8 was chosen because of its proven reliability, rugged construction and superb tape handling capabilities. Eight tracks on S-VHS tape allow much wider track widths than those offered on other digital tape-recording formats. Plus, S-VHS tape is readily available.

Front Panel Controls.
In addition to the familiar transport controls, the RD-8 has a number of logical, user-friendly features. The RD-8 is the only recorder in its class with an on-board, back-lit variable contrast LCD display. It provides all of the information you’ll need to keep track of offsets, punch points, generator functions and other pertinent data.

Three function keys, combined with the HOME, NEXT and UP/DOWN buttons, enable you to navigate the edit menus effortlessly. NEXT steps you through various pages; NEXT plus UP backs you up a step at a time, and HOME always returns you to the top of the edit chain. Make your choices with the function keys and modify values with the UP/DOWN keys.

Standard Remote Control.
The model 8312 remote controller places many of the most commonly accessed functions right on your desktop.

Optional Remote Control.
Model RMC-8 remote control unit can run up to four RD-8 units (32 tracks), with the ability to set Auto Punch-in/out points; store and locate up to 100 cue points; edit locate points; set offset values; full track record select; all transport functions. Interface is via RS-422 ports.
