Fostex CR200 Professional CD Recorder

You've wanted professional CD recording for ages, you've needed it for even longer. But the ability to professionally master audio compact discs has until now been somewhat of a luxury, with only the very top studios and recording professionals having the kind of investment to purchase a CD mastering machine.

Fostex CR200 Professional CD Recorder Details

Fostex CR200 – Mastering audio compact discs has traditionally been a luxury, accessible only to top-tier studios and recording professionals who could afford the significant investment in a CD mastering machine.

But that’s about to change with the introduction of the Fostex CR200 Compact Disc Recorder. This professional-grade machine combines remarkable value with state-of-the-art digital and analogue audio recording, all housed in a robust copper chassis. The CR200 records directly onto standard CD-R media and features user-friendly front panel controls—though ‘easy to use’ doesn’t mean it’s lacking in features.

Fostex is renowned for creating audio tools that are both powerful and straightforward to operate, and the CR200 is no exception.

With the push of a single button, you can choose from five flexible recording modes. Three of these are Digital Synchro modes (1, 2, and 3), which automatically begin recording when the Fostex CR200 detects an incoming signal. The other two are manual modes (4 and 5), which function just like a traditional recorder using transport keys.

  • Synchro Mode 1 – ‘1-track’: Records incoming audio to a single track and then returns to ‘record ready.’
  • Synchro Mode 2 – ‘All-track’: Records directly from CD, MD, or DAT players, automatically renewing track numbers and stopping after the final track.
  • Synchro Mode 3 – ‘Auto-ID’: Creates track IDs identical to those on an incoming DAT Start ID, enabling the creation of DAT clones.
  • Mode 4 – ‘Digital manual’: Allows for digital recording using standard transport keys.
  • Mode 5 – ‘Analogue manual’: Enables analogue recording using Rec Level, Rec Balance, and standard transport keys.

The Fostex CR200 also offers three modes of Copy Bit selection: discs without copy protection, one-time-copy discs, and copy-prohibited discs.

While it’s easy to use, the Fostex CR200 doesn’t compromise on quality. It features a built-in sample rate converter that accepts 32kHz or 48kHz sources and converts them to the CD standard of 44.1kHz, making it essential for creating original CD masters from DAT or MD media.

The chassis is designed to provide excellent protection against electronic interference, and the CR200’s superior performance is further ensured by its high-quality components and dual internal power supplies, each with its own transformer.

With such meticulous attention to detail and exceptional value, the Fostex CR200 allows you to master ultra-high-quality final copies of your sessions in a format that anyone can play. Trust Fostex.
