Founded by sound engineer John McBride, and his wife country artist Martina McBride, in 2002, Blackbird Studios has become Nashville’s preeminent sound studio. Growth has continued and the Blackbird Studios complex now includes nine state-of-the-art studios.
Blackbird has become the first choice of many accomplished artists from all genres, including: Keith Urban, Kings of Leon, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, John Mayer, Dolly Parton, Beck, Rush, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Blake Shelton, Kesha, The White Stripes, Pearl Jam, Neil Young, and many others.
Across their nine rooms, Blackbird has just about any vintage or new effects box you could desire. Everything from the late 1950s through to modern day compressors and classic digital reverbs from the 1980s, they are all here, among other state of the art studio equipment including ATC monitoring in most of the nine studios.
Blackbird Studio C (pictured above) is regarded as one of the best immersive mix and playback environments globally. The space was designed by George Massenburg and Dr. Peter D’Antonio, with a focus on sound diffusion using advanced acoustic algorithms.
The studio features 138,646 custom-cut MDF wooden pieces, all of different sizes, spread across its walls. The intricate design uses over 100,000 pounds of wood to create an acoustic environment that blends art with function, making it an ideal setting for high-quality audio production and mixing.
