Even under the influence of extreme settings, the sound maintains its integrity, retaining both cleanliness and potency. The Elysia Alpha Compressor consistently delivers impeccable processing outcomes across diverse musical genres, ensuring the definitive “this is it” sensation associated with a polished composition. Its augmented capabilities far surpass those of conventional compressors, presenting unprecedented avenues for mastering and mixing creativity.

The circuitry of the Elysia Alpha Compressor represents an entirely novel advancement, ushering in a degree of openness and lucidity that is rarely encountered elsewhere. The entire signal processing of the alpha is anchored in individual transistors operating consistently in class-A mode, with this design philosophy extending to encompass both the sidechain and power supply through discrete circuitry. Every component selected is of the utmost quality, meticulously chosen based solely on their exceptional sonic attributes.

M/S technology, often recognised as a variant of stereo microphoning, employs a microphone configuration where a cardioid-pattern microphone captures the middle signal (M), and another bi-directional-pattern microphone with a 90° offset captures the side signal (S). This method’s key advantage lies in its compatibility with mono playback. FM radio stations frequently utilise M/S technology to transmit stereo signals, primarily due to this mono-friendly attribute.

Generating M/S signals involves summing the left and right channels of the stereo sum to create the mid (M), while the side (S) is obtained by subtracting the right channel from the left channel:

M = L + R S = L – R

Reverting an M/S signal back into stereo format entails adding M to S for the left channel and subtracting S from M for the right channel:

L = M + S R = M – S

Incorporating an M/S encoder and decoder within a compressor unlocks new possibilities that traditional linked stereo compressors struggle to provide. A significant advantage lies in the capacity to process the middle and side signals individually. This allows for compacting the centre while preserving the original stereo spread, a technique that can prove invaluable.

Moreover, this technology facilitates enhancing the presence of side signals within a finished mix. The manipulation of stereo width becomes both swift and effective. Additionally, specific elements of a mix that might be challenging to isolate accurately in a standard stereo mode can be precisely compressed using M/S processing.
