The Buzz Audio REQ-2.2 features four fully parametric EQ bands per channel, each capable of simultaneous boost and cut, a design that allows for the creation of resonant or scooped curves with minimal phase distortion. Each band is equipped with a continuously variable Q control and a broad frequency range, ensuring precision in both surgical and musical applications. The outer bands can be switched between bell and shelving mode, offering further flexibility when sculpting low or high-end content.
The EQ architecture is centred around custom-made inductors in the midrange bands, chosen for their smooth, natural sound. These are coupled with discrete high-voltage Class A buffers and low-noise opamps to deliver a detailed and open sonic character. The signal path is fully balanced and transformerless by default, preserving accuracy and low distortion, though Lundahl output transformers are available as an option for those seeking additional colouration.
A sweepable 12dB/octave high-pass filter is included on each channel, providing control over unwanted low-frequency rumble. Two versions are available: the Buzz Audio REQ-2.2 PE (Producer Edition), featuring smooth rotary controls for creative studio use, and the Buzz Audio REQ-2.2 ME (Mastering Edition), which replaces the frequency, gain, and Q knobs with 24-position Elma switches for precise and repeatable settings. Regardless of version, the layout is clear and functional, with high-quality knobs, switches, and a solid 2U rackmount chassis.
Internally, the Buzz Audio REQ-2.2 is powered by a custom linear power supply with a toroidal transformer, ensuring clean, stable operation.
