AudioScape 76D Limiting Amplifier Details

AudioScape proudly introduces the AudioScape 76D, a USA-built, period-accurate recreation of the legendary blackface revision of the UREI 1176 compressor. Originally released in the early 1970s, the Rev. D is renowned for its punchy, thick, and harmonically rich tone, making it one of the most iconic and widely used dynamic processors in history.

Our 76D faithfully captures the unmistakable character of this analogue classic, offering a perfect solution for those seeking to bring its legendary sound to their outboard setup. With the addition of the 76D, our line-up of the most coveted 76 revisions—76A, 76F, and now 76D—is complete, bringing the holy trinity of classic FET compressors to studios everywhere.

The original 76 compressor’s charm and unique coloration came largely from the iron used in its input transformer. The AudioScape 76D features a Cinemag CO-12 input transformer, which was carefully selected after evaluating every modern option available. Cinemag has delivered the most authentic-sounding replica of the original’s tonal character.

Another defining feature of the original was its lightning-fast attack and release times, a crucial aspect that many modern recreations fail to replicate accurately. The AudioScape 76D uses NOS 1970s FETs, allowing it to deliver the same ultra-fast response as the original, making it immediately familiar to users who know the classic unit inside and out.

The AudioScape 76D is designed to excel on lead vocals, bass, drums, and drum rooms, adding punch, thickness, and beautifully complex saturation. It also includes the infamous “all buttons in” mode, where all four ratio buttons can be engaged simultaneously, creating a distinctive saturation effect. True to AudioScape’s quality, the AudioScape 76D performs flawlessly even when pushed to the edge, maintaining excellent low-end retention under heavy compression.

Built with premium components, the AudioScape 76D uses carbon composition resistors in the audio path for vintage tone and precision metal film resistors in the sidechain for reliable performance. It is equipped with a Triad power transformer and a custom-wound Cinemag output transformer, ensuring durability and an authentic vintage vibe. The 76D is a true testament to AudioScape’s commitment to sonic excellence.
