AudioScape 260VU Compressor/Limiter Details

Introducing the AudioScape 260VU stereo version of the legendary VCA compressor that started it all, the DBX 160! Perfectly versatile, it’s as adept at mixing and tracking as it is at delivering a powerful smack and punch to any sound it touches. Infused with a distinct ’70s character, it brings a unique midrange warmth while offering precise control over unruly dynamics.

Its innovative RMS-based detector circuit mimics the way the human ear perceives sound, resulting in a compression style unlike any other. Exceptional on percussive sources and bass instruments, it also shines on unexpected elements like vocals. The stereo configuration makes it effortless to apply its signature punch and snap to keyboards, drum sub-groups, and even the mix bus.

The AudioScape 260VU was inspired by a request from John Kennedy years ago, urging us to revive a vintage, almost “archaic” circuit design with old-school aesthetics. During the meticulous R&D process for the D-Comp, we modernised the topology while preserving the unique quirks of the original unit, creating something entirely fresh yet rooted in vintage charm.

After over two years in the design phase—plus countless hours refining components, layouts, and aesthetics—we’re thrilled to introduce the AudioScape 260VU to the AudioScape family.

A labour of love, the AudioScape 260VU is thoughtfully crafted one at a time, offering a product we believe surpasses the competition. It’s not just a compressor; it’s a testament to the value of timeless design and dedicated craftsmanship.
