Crane Song Egret

Crane Song Egret Summing Mixer

The Crane Song Egret is an eight-channel D/A converter and stereo mixer featuring adjustable colour control, analogue processing insert capability, and sample rate conversion up to 192 kHz, designed to enhance DAW mixing with flexible analogue summing and monitoring options.

Crane Song Egret Summing Mixer Details

The Crane Song Egret is a highly flexible digital audio workstation back end. It features eight channels of high-quality D/A converters and a stereo line level mixer with colour options. Each channel of the stereo mixer has a level control, an aux send that is post level control, a colour control, pan control, an analogue/digital source button, solo and mute buttons.

The colour function can be adjusted from a transparent sound to a complex mix of second and third harmonic content, allowing the user to blend from clean modern sounds to vintage sounds. With the balanced direct outputs and the balanced analogue inputs, it is possible to insert analogue processing into individual channels.

The aux buss has a master level control and is designed to be used as an effects send. There is also a balanced stereo effects return. The master stereo buss level control is a stepped attenuator with 1 dB steps for most of its range. This provides accurate gain control, repeatability, and stereo gain matching to better than .05dB.

A headphone system is included for creating a monitor mix when Crane Song Egret is used in multi-channel location recording and for monitoring all channels. The D/A converters support sample rates up to 192 kHz and have sample rate converters on each channel for jitter reduction. The SRCs can be disabled with a front panel switch for situations where lower latency is important.

The system is designed so that the converters and the interface can be upgraded as technology improves. The standard interface supports AES single wire to 192 kHz, ADAT, and S/MUX to 96 kHz. The converters can be used independently and at different sample rates.

The stereo and cue busses can be chained together to create a multiple input system. With a special cable, Crane Song Egret’s stereo buss can be connected to a Crane Song Spider to sum additional analogue inputs during mixing.
