The Buzz Audio SOC-M is a precision stereo optical compressor designed specifically for mastering engineers who require ultimate control and sonic transparency. Evolving from the well-regarded SOC-1.1, the SOC-M refines the concept with a host of enhancements tailored to the demands of modern mastering.
It features the same discrete Class A audio path and smooth optical compression characteristic of Buzz Audio, but upgrades the interface with 24-position Elma stepped controls for threshold, ratio, attack, release, gain and mix, allowing for precise recall and accurate stereo matching.
This mastering version also includes a parallel compression mix control, enabling effortless blending of dry and compressed signals without the need for external routing. The Buzz Audio SOC-M offers a switchable side chain high-pass filter to reduce low-frequency pumping, and side chain insert points for external EQ shaping or dynamic control.
Unique to this model is its selectable stereo, dual mono, and mono operation modes, ideal for both traditional stereo processing and advanced mid/side techniques. The compressor’s mid/side mode is especially valuable for mastering engineers looking to process the stereo image with more flexibility.
Internally, the Buzz Audio SOC-M features a true Class A signal path and transformerless balanced I/O, or optional Lundahl output transformers for added character. Its optical gain reduction system is custom-designed to offer a naturally musical response, making the Buzz Audio SOC-M capable of subtle dynamic control or more pronounced effects without sounding aggressive.
Built in New Zealand with premium components and exceptional attention to detail, the Buzz Audio SOC-M is housed in a rugged 2U rackmount chassis and includes a high-grade toroidal power supply for clean, consistent operation.
