The RME M-1620 Pro is a professional-grade 16-channel analogue-to-digital and 20-channel digital-to-analogue converter designed to integrate seamlessly into modern hybrid audio systems. Housed in a compact 1U rackmount chassis, it provides full conversion between analogue line-level signals and multiple digital formats including ADAT, MADI, and Milan® network audio, making it an ideal choice for studios, live environments, and complex audio installations.
Equipped with 16 balanced line inputs and 16 balanced line outputs, each channel is individually switchable to operate at reference levels up to +24 dBu, ensuring compatibility with a broad range of professional audio equipment. The output stages are DC-coupled for precise signal transmission and improved low-frequency performance. In addition to the main analogue I/O, the unit features two independent headphone outputs for flexible on-the-fly monitoring directly from the front panel.
Digital connectivity is extensive and robust. The RME M-1620 Pro includes four ADAT optical I/O ports, allowing for up to 32 channels of digital audio at standard sampling rates. MADI is available via coaxial connection and can be optionally expanded with an optical SFP module, facilitating high-channel-count digital integration. Milan®-based AVB networking is supported via two gigabit Ethernet ports, enabling up to 128 channels of networked audio with fixed latency and high reliability in compliant systems.
A redesigned front panel enhances usability, combining intuitive navigation with LED level metering and a built-in display for precise visual feedback. Users can configure routing and settings directly from the device or through network-based remote access. Synchronisation is supported via Word Clock I/O, and RME’s SteadyClock FS technology ensures ultra-low jitter and accurate timing across all digital domains.
For mission-critical scenarios, the RME M-1620 Pro also supports an optional redundant power supply input, maintaining system stability in case of primary power failure. Altogether, this converter brings together high-spec conversion, flexible digital integration, and professional monitoring in one reliable and scalable unit.
