The Stam MEQP-1AS is a stereo 1:1 replica of the iconic Pultec EQP-1A, regarded as the most beloved tube equalizer in the world. It also incorporates the mid-band section of the famous Pultec MEQ-5, offering both boost and attenuation control for added versatility.
After retiring the MK1 in 2019, years were spent developing custom input, inter-stage, and output transformers, as well as accurate inductors, to faithfully recreate the vintage Pultec sound. The Stam EQP-1AS utilises six Sowter Audio transformers and five tubes, including a 6X4 tube in the power supply, renowned for its characteristic “sag.” Sowter transformers, though costly, deliver unmatched low-end performance, sonic timbre, and frequency response, ensuring an authentic reproduction of the original’s tone.
In addition to ensuring sonic fidelity, the Stam MEQP-1AS was designed with practicality in mind. It combines stereo operation within a compact 3U faceplate, complete with stereo controls. All switches are matched to a 0.1% tolerance, and tubes are carefully matched to achieve perfect stereo operation. Fully stepped switches further enhance precision and recallability.
Built with premium components, the Stam MEQP-1AS features custom Sowter UK transformers, Carnhill inductors, NOS tubes, Corner Dubillier capacitors, Allen Bradley carbon resistors, and Neutrik connectors. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that it remains one of the most accurate and best-sounding recreations of the original Pultec equalizer available.
Each unit is hand-assembled in Chile with exceptional care, undergoing a rigorous 72-hour burn-in process to guarantee reliable performance for many years. The Stam MEQP-1AS stands as a tribute to the legacy of the Pultec, offering masterful craftsmanship and unparalleled sound quality.
