AudioScape V-Comp 6386 Edition Vari-MU Compressor Details

Warm, intimate, and rich in tone, the AudioScape V-Comp 6386 Edition is a special limited-edition compressor crafted for classic tube gear purists. It’s AudioScape’s most sonically luxurious compressor, inspired by a legendary 1950s variable-gain tube design celebrated for its effortless musicality.

Featuring a premium JJ 6386 tube for gain reduction, this edition delivers unmatched warmth and dynamic control, staying true to the iconic sound of its vintage predecessor.

The V-Comp is AudioScape’s latest bespoke addition, a reimagining of a legendary 1950s variable-gain tube broadcast compressor. Enhanced in all the signature ways you expect from AudioScape, it combines timeless compression with rich, thick saturation courtesy of seven tubes and custom Cinemag transformers.

Inspired by the classic Gates compressors, the V-Comp delivers lush vintage tone, making it a perfect choice for vocals and bass, while its unique compression behaviour evokes the sound of iconic records. Its forgiving nature and expansive sweet spot make it equally suited for taming unruly vocalists, bouncy basslines, and gritty synths, adding character, grit, and warmth to any track.

The AudioScape V-Comp 6386 Edition features custom-wound input and output transformers, vintage NOS tubes, Allen-Bradley carbon comp resistors, and Cornell Dubilier polypropylene caps, all chosen to capture the essence of the original circuit. The result is a sonically opulent, bold, and commanding compressor with extraordinary musicality.

With its variable-mu topology, the V-Comp offers gentle, program-dependent compression that naturally ebbs and flows with the source. Its warm, vintage tone can be pushed into high levels of saturation and grit without losing clarity. A fourth “Bypass” mode lets you run audio through the all-tube signal path and transformers without engaging compression.

The AudioScape V-Comp 6386 Edition includes several modern improvements, such as more usable input and output controls for better transformer saturation and tube gain staging. Updated time constants enable faster recovery times for modern production needs, while retaining the vintage vibe. For added fun, the “Glitch Mode” setting, achieved by combining specific settings, offers a unique sonic effect.

The AudioScape V-Comp 6386 Edition is a commanding tool for vintage-inspired productions, equally at home in modern workflows, delivering unparalleled tone and performance.
