Alesis AI-3

Alesis AI-3 8-Channel 24-Bit Converter

The Alesis AI-3 is an affordable interface for converting analogue to digital audio using ADAT Optical. It has eight inputs and outputs, 24-bit converters, and integrates with ADAT-compatible devices. Compact and easy to use, it fits into a 19" rack and adds analogue I/O to digital mixers from various brands.

Alesis AI-3 8-Channel 24-Bit Converter Details

The Alesis AI-3 interface provides a cost-effective solution for converting between analogue and digital audio using the ADAT Optical protocol. Featuring eight analogue inputs and outputs, 24-bit digital converters, and an ADAT Optical digital interface, the Alesis AI-3 is ideal for studios looking to establish a digital connection between recorders, mixers, and other compatible equipment.

ADAT digital interface from the creators of ADAT
The Alesis AI-3 offers eight analogue inputs and outputs on balanced 1/4″ TRS connectors. These inputs are connected to 24-bit, 128 times oversampling A/D/A converters, delivering a 96dB dynamic range. The digital signal can be routed via the ADAT Optical digital interface to any device supporting the ADAT Optical format. The AI-3 also works in reverse, converting ADAT Optical digital audio signals back to analogue with 24-bit accuracy.

Front panel meters and compact design
The Alesis AI-3’s front panel features individual LEDs to indicate signal presence and peaks for all eight channels. A switch lets you choose between balanced +4dBu and unbalanced -10dBV operation. Another front panel switch allows the ADAT Optical signal to be routed through the Alesis AI-3, enabling multi-ADAT setups without the need for repatching. The simple rear panel includes eight input and output jacks, as well as the ADAT Optical interface. Its sleek design allows it to fit into a single standard 19″ equipment rack, saving space in the studio.

ADAT Optical: the global digital standard
The Alesis AI-3 converts any analogue signal to the ADAT Optical digital standard. ADAT Optical is widely recognised as a leading digital interfacing protocol, transmitting eight channels of digital audio with up to 24-bit resolution through an affordable, compact fibre optic cable.

Alongside various Alesis products, almost every digital mixer includes ADAT Optical as a standard or optional interface. This makes the AI-3 suitable for adding analogue inputs and outputs to consoles from brands such as Yamaha, Ramsa, Spirit, Mackie, and others.

Great unit. Durable (40 years old and still going unlike the imported stuff being offered today). I own several different delays (I.e. ADA, Lexicon, and multi effect units) and this thing matches up to the best of them. Recommended!
