Korg DL8000R Digital Multi-Tap Delay Details

The Korg DL8000R is a highly versatile digital delay processor, offering exceptional features and flexibility. Building on Korg’s pioneering digital delay development that began in the early 1980s, this device delivers superb studio-quality processing. It operates as a true stereo device with extremely clean sound and can achieve long stereo delay times of up to 5,200ms. For mono configurations, it can reach a maximum delay time of 10,000ms when both delay lines are connected in series.

The Korg DL8000R’s left and right delay lines are equipped with independent 3 Band EQ, Pre-Delay, and four delay taps, each featuring high and low damp filters in the feedback loops. Each delay tap can be modulated by various sources, including an internal LFO with a selection of five different waveforms, an audio envelope, assignable controllers, and MIDI clock. A comprehensive internal mixer allows for independent programmable level, stereo panning, and polarity settings for each of the eight delay taps.

The device comes with 128 factory preset programs, offering a wide range of delay settings, including mono, stereo, multi-tap, and modulation effects like chorus, flanger, and tremolo. These presets also include tempo, rhythm, and hold-type effects that can add depth to techno and club music. One of the notable features is the “TURNTHEWARP,” which allows users to create dramatic changes in delay time parameters using the front panel WARP! knob.

The Korg DL8000R is designed for studio applications, featuring programs for delay, modulation, and EQ effects commonly used by recording engineers, as well as programs tailored specifically for vocals. Additionally, it offers real-time control options for use with optional pedals, MIDI-sync programs, mic simulations, cabinet resonators, and unique special effects. Users can modify these preset programs to create their own settings and store them in the 128 available memory slots.

The Korg DL8000R also provides flexible dynamic control, allowing simultaneous real-time control of up to sixteen parameters. These parameters can be controlled via MIDI, an expression pedal or footswitch, audio signal, or the special front panel WARP! knob. The device’s specially designed DSP circuitry ensures glitch-free real-time control of delay times.

In addition to the standard Time mode, where delay times are manually selected, the Korg DL8000R features a Tempo mode. This mode automatically sets delay times using Tempo and Factor (note value) parameters. The left and right Rhythm Pattern parameter contains a selection of 21 different rhythmic delay patterns, utilising the eight delay taps.

A tap tempo function is also available, allowing users to set delay times by tapping a dedicated front panel button or footswitch. The audio trigger function can detect audio peaks and automatically calculate delay times, which can also be synced to MIDI clock.

The Korg DL8000R is designed with powerful studio-friendly features, making it a highly adaptable and user-friendly tool for various audio production needs.
