Fostex CR500 Master Recorder Details

The Fostex CR500 not only allows for professional mastering of stereo recordings onto CD-R/RW, but it also provides the unique capability of directly recording Broadcast WAV files onto a UDF formatted disc at a maximum resolution of 24bit/96kHz. This feature allows for seamless transfer to Pro Tools® and other computer-based professional editing environments, eliminating the need for audio ripping.

The Fostex CR500 is a professional-grade mastering machine that comes equipped with balanced XLR connections, LED meters, and the convenience of easily naming tracks via a USB keyboard. It also offers a range of other features such as instant play, fader start, and the ability to store 10 memory points/program play memories per disc, among others.

Whether you need to master CDs, record live events, create BWF files, or play back audio for stage performances, events, or broadcasts, the Fostex CR500 has got you covered.

With its 24bit quality at up to 96kHz and high-precision laser technology, the Fostex CR500 is capable of delivering exceptional recording quality. It can record to standard recordable data CDs from various analogue and digital inputs, resulting in discs with outstanding accuracy and integrity.

However, the Fostex CR500’s capabilities go beyond just that. It is the first professional machine in the world to offer direct recording and generation of BWF (Broadcasting WAV format) to UDF formatted CD-R/RWs at a resolution of up to 24bit/96kHz. This is a significant development as these discs can be recognised by PC editing systems directly, eliminating the need for time-consuming real-time audio ripping.

Instead, you can simply ‘cut & paste’ the files. The Fostex CR500 also offers multi-record settings, including 16bit/44.1kHz and 48kHz, as well as 24bit/44.1, 48, 88.2, and 96kHz. It also features easy track naming and simple transport controls via a standard USB keyboard, and the level of attention to detail you would expect from a professional master recorder designed by Fostex.

The Fostex CR500 is designed to excel in today’s professional playback environments, whether in a conference centre, theatre, stadium, or broadcast studio. It comes packed with several thoughtful features that enhance its usability in these settings.

For instance, the Fostex CR500 allows you to program 10 memory points per disc, and it can store up to 100 discs in memory. It also features instant play, making it ideal for event applications, and fader start, which is perfect for broadcast use. Additionally, it offers power-on play for installations and a flexible range of balanced and unbalanced digital and analogue outputs.
