With proper use the Furman Sound RV-1 is capable of providing clean and realistic reverb effects over a long lifetime. It may be used with equally good results in recording studios, musical instrument systems, or sound reinforcement systems.
Input Level: Adjusts level of signal which drives the spring’s input transducer. It is used to compensate for the various signal strengths which may be plugged into the Furman Sound RV-1. To provide optimum dynamic range in the wet (reverberated) signal, it should be set so that the Limiter Threshold light goes on occasionally, but not continuously.
Limiter Threshold: This green LED light turns on when the gain reduction circuitry in the RV-1’s limiter has been triggered by a large signal. Note that this function is different from the overload light found in some other units. Because of the limiter, the RV-I will not overload except in extreme cases. Take advantage of it and allow the Limiter Threshold light to flash on signal peaks. If audible distortion is heard, reduce the Input Level control slightly.
Midrange Frequency: Works in conjunction with the Midrange Equalisation control. It sets the centre frequency for equalisation and is adjustable from 160 to 1400 Hz. Note that the Furman Sound RV-1’s equalisation section is in the reverb return circuit, and thus affects only the reverberated (not direct) signal.
Midrange Equalisation: Combines with the Midrange Frequency control to form a quasi-parametric section. Controls the amount of boost or cut in decibels applied at the frequency designated by the Midrange Frequency control. Center rotation is 0db, or flat response. Up to 18 db may be boosted or cut. Bandwidth is approximately one-half octave.
Treble Equalisation: A treble shelving-type control. Up to 18 db of boost or cut may be applied to the reverberated signal at 10 kHz. The equalisation effect begins at 2.5 kHz and increases gradually to a maximum effect at 10 kHz.
Direct Level: Level or volume control which works together with Reverb Level to set the proportion of dry to wet sound, respectively. When the reverberated sound (i.e. the sound controlled by the Reverb Level control) is muted through activating the Foot Switch, then only the sound through the Direct Level control reaches the Furman Sound RV-1’s output.
Reverb Level: Controls level of wet sound. See Direct Level.
Pilot Light: Glows red whenever power is applied to the Furman Sound RV-1.
